Does reperfusion induce myocardial necrosis?

چکیده

While coronary thrombolytic therapy in clinical practice is well established for acute myocardial infarction, the injury associated with reperfusion ("reperfusion injury") is still under intense investigation regarding its nature and the strategy for its prevention. Reperfusion injury has been defined as cell injury caused by reperfusion itself, in contradistinction to cell injury caused by the preceding ischemia. It refers to cell necrosis or is used in a broader way to include mechanical dysfunction (myocardial stunning), arrhythmia (reperfusion arrhythmia) and vascular damage (no-reflow phenomenon).1 In contrast to myocardial stunning, reperfusion arrhythmia and no-reflow phenomenon, the existence of reperfusion-induced lethal myocardial injury is still highly controversial.

Does Heart Affect Peripheral Vascular Resistance Following Myocardial Ischemia and Reperfusion?

Objective(s) The aim of this study was to investigate the overall effect of cardiac vasoactive factors during coronary occlusion and reperfusion on peripheral vascular tone, using a sequential isolated rabbit heart-ear perfusion model. Materials and Methods Isolated ears were perfused with the effluent of isolated hearts subjected to ischemia (30 min) and reperfusion (180 min, n=6). The comp...

Role of tumor necrosis factor-alpha in myocardial dysfunction and apoptosis during hindlimb ischemia and reperfusion.

OBJECTIVE Peripheral vascular surgery involving limb ischemia/reperfusion is associated with tumor necrosis factor-alpha production and an increased risk of cardiac complications. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of tumor necrosis factor-alpha in myocardial apoptosis and dysfunction following hindlimb ischemia/reperfusion. DESIGN Randomized perspective animal study. S...

Role of intracellular antioxidant enzymes after in vivo myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.

Reactive oxygen species induce myocardial damage after ischemia and reperfusion in experimental animal models. Numerous studies have investigated the deleterious effects of ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-induced oxidant production using various pharmacological interventions. More recently, in vitro studies have incorporated gene-targeted mice to decipher the role of antioxidant enzymes in myocardia...

Does reperfusion extend necrosis? A study in a single territory of myocardial ischemia--half reperfused and half not reperfused.

The purpose of this study was to confirm or disprove the existence of reperfusion-induced extension of necrosis. To avoid the effect of the variability of collateral circulation when groups of dogs are compared, we compared the effect of reperfusion and nonreperfusion on myocardial necrosis in a single ischemic territory, half of which was reperfused and half of which was not. The left anterior...

Differential contribution of necrosis and apoptosis in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Necrosis and apoptosis differentially contribute to myocardial injury. Determination of the contribution of these processes in ischemia-reperfusion injury would allow for the preservation of myocardial tissue. Necrosis and apoptosis were investigated in Langendorff-perfused rabbit hearts (n = 47) subjected to 0 (Control group), 5 (GI-5), 10 (GI-10), 15 (GI-15), 20 (GI-20), 25 (GI-25), and 30 mi...
